This year marks 150 years of Clacton-on-Sea, a key location of the Octopus Ahoy! trail, which celebrates this momentous occasion for Tendring. Residents and visitors to the area alike be flocking to the town to enjoy the Clacton 150 Anniversary Flights, including a flypast from the famous Red Arrows, and local businesses are getting involved too.
The Kingscliff Hotel, by Surya Hotels (one of our Octopus Patrons and kind sponsor of ‘Escape, Stay, Explore, Discover’ based at Colchester North Train Station) will be joining in the festivities with their Family Fun Days on Thursday and Friday this week.
As well as giving octopus sculpture ‘Vitality’ a summer home on its doorstep, and two small sculptures inside, The Kingscliff is hosting Octopus Ahoy! for two afternoons – and we’ll be offering TWO amazing rewards to app users!
You read that right; CJ and the team will once again be out in the community handing out freebies to octopus hunters that pop along to say hello with the app in tow…
Octopus Keyrings
We have 250 super-cute, soft and fluffy (and much sought-after) octopus keyrings to give away to octopus fans! Our CJ will be in place (and trying his best not to be distracted by the bouncy castle) to meet you, ready to pose for selfies and hand out his adorable octopus friends, perfect for adorning your keys and celebrating ‘all things octopus’ long after the sculpture trail has left the streets.
Available in a variety of eye-catching colours, simply find CJ and his friends at The Kingscliff Hotel on Thursday 26th August, between 12:00pm and 4:00pm, and show proof of the reward in the app to claim yours. The first 250 app users will receive one free keyring each, with colour chosen at random.
This reward will unlock in the app on Thursday morning, so keep an eye out and read full T&Cs before your visit.
Pink Parrot Pottery Vouchers

The first 30 trail followers to meet CJ and the team at the Kingscliff Hotel on Friday 27th August, between 12:00pm and 4:00pm, and show proof of this reward in the app will be entitled to one voucher each, providing an exclusive free pottery painting session at Pink Parrot Pottery in Great Bentley.
Like before, your free session must be taken alongside one or more other paying customers and must be redeemed by the end of October. This reward will become available and unlocked on our free app on Friday morning – where you can also find full T&Cs before you make a special trip.

On both days, make sure you stay and get involved in the revelry at the Family Fun Day – grab some food and drink, enjoy the live music from local artists, and let the little ones loose on the bouncy castle. Of course, not forgetting The Kingscliff is a fabulous spot from which to enjoy the Clacton 150 Anniversary Flights.
