CJ’s Diary: Meeting Ollie and the team at Children in Care!

Ahoy friends!

Gilly gosh, another exciting visit for you this week…

I had the pleasure of tagging along with the Octopus Ahoy! crew for another octopus collection – this time my tentacles took me to Children in Care, one of the organisations taking part in our Education Programme!

We were met by the wonderful staff members Sarah and Jacqui. They told us all about the amazing work they do every day, providing support for vulnerable children and young people and working with parents and families to help them care for their children. I was glad to hear that organisations like that exist to look out for young people.

The children Sarah and Jacqui work with had a mini octopus to design… so the grown-ups organised a competition! All of the little humans put their creative ideas to paper, but after seeing all the splash-tastic sketches, it was very hard to choose just one winner. So, they put their heads together and realised – let’s put the all the ideas together too! The very colourful ‘Ollie’ incorporates part of each child’s design… here he is, all ship-shape and varnished, the perfect figurehead of teamwork and creativity!

I’m super excited to meet some of the talented little artists over the summer when we’re all out on the trail – I’ll be sure to give them a big high-8. Keep an eye out for me, everyone!

Until next time – ahoy!
